Normals are a subsection of humanity that have a specific colour of magic that does not allow them to use the powers that an Other possesses. They are as their title suggests: Normal. Normals make up the majority of humanity, When under the influence of the Orichalcos, Normals are turned into Converts.

Effects of the WardEdit

The Ward is a a part of magic that evolved shortly after the Second Cut Off and the revival of the Orichalcos. It was originally supposed to help the Others community to slip into obscurity, though due to Magic's inability to function correctly upon its creation, also made Normals fear Others. Because of this, many Normals have abused, bullied, or abandoned Others that they know out of that irrational fear that they have of them.

Bypassing the WardEdit

Realization Of The Irrationality Of Their Fear

Normals who are able to do this are rare. They think through their every action towards their Other counterparts and come to the conclusion that there is no reason to be afraid. They realize this on their own with no outside help.

Vision ImpairmentsEdit

Normals who do not have 20-20 vision are not effected as much by the Ward. This is because the Ward is activated by sight and if the image of an Other is even slightly blurry, then it takes the edge of the Ward's powers. The most effective, though rather unpractical, way to utilize this option is to blind yourself in some way. However, vision impairing glasses are also effective.

LoveEdit

If a Normal begins to care enough about an Other, then the Ward seems to stop taking a hold on them. There is no reasonable explanation for why this occurs, though it can be chalked up to the fact that Magic is a romantic.

Being Told Of Magic's ExistenceEdit

Normals who learn what an Other is, they begin to get used to the idea of magic and what those who wield it can do. This is the most risky of options to take, as it is possible for a Normal to begin to fear Others more after finding out the truth.

Blood Relations to OthersEdit

When a Normal is related to an Other, sometimes there are effects that are passed down. These effects usually skip a generation, so it is the grandchildren of Others that experience these. The effects are not overly noticeable or powerful, sometimes manifesting itself in a very good ability to predict events that are yet to come (like Joseph Wheeler) or being able to sense the intentions of the dead (any biological grandchildren that Ryou Bakura may or may not have). They are not specifically magical powers, but they are the direct result of Normals having Other ancestors.

ImportanceEdit

Though it is unclear exactly why at the moment, Normals play an integral part in keeping Magic alive. They are part of the cycle of life and death and are the balance that keeps him from dying.

After DeathEdit

When a Normal dies, their body stays on the earth. The soul detaches itself from its body as the clock strikes midnight. If the Normal is bound to the earth by guilt, the soul will remain until those chains are removed - either on their own or with the help of a Necromancer. What happens to the soul afterwards is unknown.

TriviaEdit

  • Even though Normals do not have access to the powers associated with Magic, that does not make them helpless. Most Normals are able to equalize the playing field with the help of technology.
  • Mokuba Kaiba was the first Normal to join Atem's new-age Resistance
  • Most Normals will treat Atem as an equal, as she does not possess the Ward
  • Magic almost made Duke Devlin an Other, but changed his mind at the last minute. That is why he, before anyone else, was able to bypass the Ward through realization alone. His eye colour is half a shade off of what it would need to be for him to be an Other.
